Are you unknowingly blocking yourself from love? Are you struggling to attract the relationships you truly want?

In this On Purpose episode, Jay Shetty sits down with New York Times best-selling author and researcher Dr. Joe Dispenza, who’s cracked the code to breaking free from stress-driven, self-limiting beliefs.

Dr. Dispenza dives into the science behind the transformation, revealing how survival instincts keep us trapped in the past, reliving old traumas and fears. This conversation will help you discover how daily meditation, gratitude, and visualization can rewire your brain and open your heart, empowering you to manifest a life in harmony with your deepest desires.

Blocks in Manifesting Love

Jay Shetty's audience often asks about barriers to manifesting love. He wanted to know from Dr. Dispenza what those are and how we can overcome them. Dr. Dispenza explained that people often remain in a state of constant readiness, where survival instincts, driven by stress hormones, keep the body focused on potential dangers rather than openness. This stress-induced survival mode leads the brain to freeze past painful memories. It anchors emotions (such as trauma and betrayal) in the body. When wired this way, the body encounters difficulty in experiencing vulnerability or love.

To break free from this cycle and be able to manifest love, you must shift from survival mode to a state of creation. He told Jay Shetty that a way to do it is to focus on your heart and slow down breathing. Your stress will be converted to calm, and emotions such as love, kindness, and gratitude can surface. This heart-centered state signals the brain to reduce survival mechanisms, enabling creativity and a renewed openness to love.

Stress Impacts Our Relationships

Jay Shetty noticed that the quest for love has become a significant source of stress for many. Many forces trigger anxiety, such as timelines, experiencing countless unsuccessful dates, and often succumbing to a scarcity mindset that convinces them there aren’t enough worthy partners out there. This constant stress takes a toll on people's ability to spark creativity and forge genuine connections with others.

Dr. Joe Dispenza emphasizes to Jay Shetty the detrimental effects of stress on our emotional balance and authenticity. It often takes a significant crisis for people to re-evaluate their approach. So, he encourages people to look inward and vividly envision their ideal relationship. However, instead of focusing on the person you want to attract, your new goal should be personal development: becoming the person you aspire to attract into your life.

Healing from Emotional Conditioning

Dr. Dispenza explains to Jay Shetty that we are often conditioned to seek external validation to fill feelings of lack. This is why we look for external validation, such as approval from others or accolades. However, true fulfillment comes from experiencing the desired emotions before an event occurs. When you truly embody the feelings of fulfillment and joy, your search for validation will diminish.

Traumatic or painful events can leave a deep emotional imprint, etched within your belief systems, influencing your thoughts and behavior for years. Therefore, it is essential to learn forgiveness; it is a process of releasing emotional attachment to the past and transforming it into wisdom. You can open up mental space for new and uplifting connections once you free yourself from the constraints of past hurt. Dr. Dispenza urges the listeners to shift focus from these unpleasant memories to a hopeful and empowered future.

When you reawaken your heart, you will become more prone to synchronicities and meaningful coincidences. Dr. Dispenza told Jay Shetty that when you learn to shift your focus toward the positive, you hold the power to create and shape your life experiences. You can actively create a future for yourself that is filled with hope and possibility.

The Anatomy of Belief

In Dr. Dispenza's view, all beliefs are created from past experiences and repeated thoughts - they become unconscious habits. He explained to Jay Shetty that you must consciously recognize and interrupt these thoughts and behaviors that are deeply engrained in your being. Only when you recognize it can you address and change it.

For example, you can weaken the neural connection of negative self-talk or limiting beliefs if you observe and catch yourself in the moment, or you can engage in daily mental rehearsals to replace old beliefs with new ones. He added that observing these thoughts without judgment is paramount in rewiring the brain. By imagining desired behaviors, the brain starts adopting this mindset. Additionally, you can condition your body to align with future goals if you practice elevated emotions, such as gratitude and optimism.

How to Rewire Your Beliefs

Dr. Joe Dispenza shared with Jay Shetty a few modalities in which you can rewire your beliefs. He emphasized that while everyone reacts, the key is reducing reaction time and maintaining focus. Set intentions each morning and regularly check in (during breaks or meals) to remain aligned with your goals. Committed people monitor their emotions and energy, especially during stressful moments, as they view it as an opportunity to return to a calm, heart-centered state.

To truly change, you must move away from the "I have to" mentality and transition into the "I want to" one. This shift will boost your motivation and will encourage you to continue your self-improvement journey. Dr. Dispenza and Jay Shetty agree that our inner monologues translate into life experiences and that our mind has the potential to alter our reality.

Change Is Powerful

Dr. Joe Dispenza detailed to Jay Shetty how change is possible for each individual. He witnessed remarkable transformations during his workshops - people who recovered from chronic illnesses and made important changes in their mindset. He believes that true change happens when you align your actions with your intentions and manage to break free from your limiting beliefs. To help the participants of his workshop reach their goals, Dr. Dispenza introduces them to scientific concepts such as neuroplasticity and epigenetics so they can also logically understand what the process looks like.

Yet, community is paramount for these transformations. Dr. Dispenza told Jay Shetty that when a group of people comes together and immerses themselves in the experience, they collectively generate a new level of consciousness. This phenomenon of "emergent consciousness" results in synchronized biological changes among participants. Research has shown that they often exhibit similar gene expressions that support health and resilience.1 These changes were more prevalent when the participants lived in a state of heart-centered relaxation while maintaining alertness in the brain.

Everyone Evolves at Their Own Pace

Dr. Dispenza explains to Jay Shetty that rewiring beliefs varies greatly from person to person, depending on factors like comprehension, meditation, and presence. While some changes appear instantaneous, they often culminate in a long internal struggle. True transformation requires repeated commitment and the willingness to consistently challenge deeply ingrained thinking patterns. To him, beliefs are habits of thinking that can be changed when you consistently show up and persevere.

It is, however, important to understand that change doesn't happen overnight. It is a process that involves shifting energy from a place of fear and restriction to heart-centered awareness. The more negative beliefs you let go of, the more you will grow and the closer you will be to allowing your true potential to flourish.

Protein Production and Meditation

Dr. Dispenza's research showed how meditation influences immunity by affecting gene expression. Moreover, he explained to Jay Shetty that stress and its frequent emotional responses weaken the body, downregulate genes, and reduce immune function. On the other hand, feeling positive emotions such as gratitude and kindness can enhance immune strength. More studies show that subjects who felt these higher emotions experienced a 50% increase in immunoglobulin A, the body’s primary defense against pathogens.2

Further research uncovered that the plasma of advanced meditators contained elevated protein levels, which inhibited the SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus from entering cells. This finding proves the human body's ability to respond to environmental stresses and challenges. So, regularly practicing meditation may naturally upregulate the proteins that enhance immunity.

The Human Potential

Meditation has many positive effects on the body, especially in enhancing the meditators' health and well-being. Dr. Joe Dispenza's studies show that as little as seven days of consistent meditation can create biological changes in your body, altering brain patterns, gene expression, and even the microbiome without diet changes.

The researcher shared with Jay Shetty that, when pairing old and young study participants, both age groups experienced enhanced cognitive and neurological functions. The elderly gained mental plasticity, while the youth benefited from the elders’ wisdom. This led him to understand the benefit of having a diverse age group around us, which benefits all members.

Collective Consciousness for Triggering Change

Jay Shetty and Dr. Dispenza discussed the power of collective consciousness and how individuals can inspire change within small groups. According to the researcher, we typically view one another through the lens of our past experiences and memories. To evolve from this state of mind, he suggests releasing negative emotions and watching the ripple effect on your life.

A connected collective can influence global consciousness. Dr. Dispenza told Jay Shetty that, at his retreats, random event generators showed shifts in orderliness, which suggests that group coherence may impact physical environments. He also suspects that, through similar global initiatives, it might be possible to shift the Earth's electromagnetic field, potentially affecting collective human behavior.

So, Dr. Dispenza encourages the listeners to “experiment” with personal change by actively shifting their beliefs and emotional states. By showing kindness and courage during chaotic times, we can contribute to a larger emergent consciousness that brings people closer together and promotes a harmonious, interconnected reality.
